Wednesday Wierdness --- Best Choice For Centrists... Mitt Romney

This opinion is not written in stone, and it is based entirely on the hypothetical premise that we have to vote tomorrow morning. We have a large field to chose from on the Republican side and so far only a small call out to Hilary on the Democratic side and I don't consider her a candidate. YET!

Most Americans are looking for that one person, able to step up and do the job of President restoring order and a sense of pride. Mitt Romney is not that man. What Mitt Romney is, is the best stopgap we have at the moment. He comes from a family well known for both it's business endeavors as well as political acumen. Experienced at dealing with harsh financial and bankruptcy situations. Not a "Tea Party" extremist and though he has right wing beliefs he is also known for not being aggressive with them, behaves like a tolerant moderate.

Rick Perry is about to enter the field. Many will flock to him with their support. To much religion in his public actions for my taste. Need to get to know more about him. Ron Paul is already in the race, he is in the unfortunate position of being an elderly "I told you so" which will alienate more people than it endears.

At the moment I find a Mitt Romney/Ron Paul ticket to be our best choice. If the election were being held tomorrow.

Read this. Then browse through this. We have immediate needs I believe Romney can get us through the next four years and get more done than the others.

I especially appeal to moderate Democrats to consider Romney over Obama, we need experience to overcome Obama's lack of it. He doesn't wear his religion on his sleeve like Perry does.

Have a better idea. I would like to hear it. Qualifications for the problems we face is top priority, not looking for a messiah.

The weirdest thing to encounter on the Vine this week is the massive lashing out at Obama that has been put forth by left-wingers. My guess is they finally realized how phony he is. They are getting one thing wrong however. He is not selling out to the Right. His motivations are entirely self-centered, hoping to remain in office and return to forcing his and his closet friend's agenda on us.

A by product of one of my articles last week has been an explosion of interest in the forming of a third party. Big happenings, but is the timing right? Do they plan on running a candidate this election? I hope not.

Another bit of weirdly interesting news. People are making a big deal about Bachman's picture on the cover of TIME. This has to be one of the weirdest deflections of all time. Wasn't it just a couple of weeks ago that libs were complaining about unflattering pictures of Obama?

I don't know, Owls...I like Romney okay, but he seems to be a bit late to the game with his comments, like he's not on top of his game, he's got to be out there... forceful, but not in a rude way like Obama ...lots of libs talking heads are saying the Christian cons, like myself, won't pick him becasue he's a Mormon. That wouldn't stop me...crap, I'd vote for Elmer Fudd if it get this current POTUS out of the White House...whoever it is, I hope people will rally around one person who opposes Obama because if that doesn't happen, the Obamadots will be assured of another Obama term and 4 additional years of American going to Hades in a handbasket...and after that, I am not sure we could ever recover.

Hi Vol and Owl! Although my political knowledge is limited, I will go with who you suggest because you're more knowledgeable on the subject. Unless you decide to run yourself! Then you have my vote there too! Anything to get this country back on track to the original constitution. How do we get term limits implemented? That would seriously help this country by getting rid of the good old boys in gov't. The

Vol, why are you still grey? Friend request sent to remedy that situation!

Back in 1960 a big deal was made over the fact that JFK was a Catholic, people made noises about being fearful of Papal interference, didn't mean squat in the end.

Romney isn't really late to the game, he was a candidate in '08. It appears to me as though he is playing a good game. Staying out of the glare of the harsh campaigning.Saving his A game for when it really counts. Avoiding the mudslinging sets him apart from the others and his poll numbers remain strong.

Morning all, feels good when people become friends doesn't it?

No, I don't dislike Romney...the late in the game comment was referring to his weighing in on issues. Is he skipping the Iowa debate? I know he skipped one already - that kind of stuff just doesn't look too good. That said, again, I could vote for him if it was between him and Nobama - easily...matter of fact, I would register and vote early and often...:) .......just kidding, people.

feels good when people become friends doesn't it?

Yes it does. It is sad that so many try to divide...

I hope he doesn't skip the Iowa debate. That would be a good time for him to start coming out of his shell. Until then, the less he says, the smaller the opportunity for his words to be twisted. If you aren't familiar with his positions on issues, the second link I provided in the article has a section where you can review his opinions on a number of issues.

I don't want to jinx anything, but Obama is pretty much dead in the water. If my name on the ballot was more than just a joke, people would probably choose me over Obama. Or you. Or heaven forbid Tyler. Maybe not that last one.

Good afternoon all!

I would have preferred Mitt in '08, and I believe he is the most moderate in the field, on either side. My wish for Pres/VP:

Rudy Gulianni / Mitt Romney

I would love to present the MAPs platform to them.

Lol, just what we need, a corporate raider, whose father was in the business, in the white house while the corporations are trying to raid our entire country. A man who has been caught lying about his place of residence so he could vote. To me that is the rough equivalent of having letters after his name LCS... liar, cheater and stealing. Maybe those letters LCT, Liar, Cheater, Thief... it sounds better.

corporate raider,

If your definition of corporate raider is someone who takes companies that are on the brink of failure and brings them back to life, thereby keeping thousands of people employed and contributing to the economy of our country, then I say we need more corporate raiders.

Mitt Romney is actually pretty moderate. He presided over healthcare reform that works better than Obama care and proved that States can do that kind of thing without federal interference. He is about as clean as a career businessman and politician gets.

While I’m a lefty and Obama all the way, I have to admit that I did like Romney. He seemed genuine and unlike some of his fellow candidates, lets face it, didn’t seem psychotic. But he’s capitulated on some things that he always took a stand against that makes me afraid for his supposed “Moderate” stances, the worst being him initially expressing disgust at that awful “marriage” pledge Santorum and Bachmann got in on and then finally signing a slightly amended version that still encompassed some of the worst aspects of big government mentality around and placing Christian values ahead of all else. Honestly, I thought he would have given Obama a run for his money and I wouldn’t have been too devastated if he did win. But now frankly I don’t think he has the strength of will to go against the “Lord Be Praised!” crew.

My choice would be Ron Paul but I am not holding my breath on that one :) Romney would be a more moderate choice and not as polarizing as most of the other candidates.

I am not as pro-republican as I am anti-progressive so beggers can't be choosers. Picking a winner is more important then picking the best choice in my opinion this time around. That is something you get used to as a libertarian. In 2012 I will be voting against a president not for one.

I agree. Im a big Ron Paul fan. He's not wishy-washy like some/many/most of the other politicians. He does what he says, says what he means, and doesnt give in to party demands. He is also pro individual freedom, which is huge for me.

I am a fan of Ron Paul also.

I disagree that Obama and Bush either one are centrists. Clinton, yes. The very qualifications that make Ron Paul the man he is, will work against him as President in the current war zone of Washington. He is not soft spoken and he wields a pretty big stick.

Where his persona would prove to be most effective is as Vice-President. In the position of President of the Senate, it wouldn't matter if the Republicans won the Senate and McConnell became majority leader or if the Democrats remained in control with Harry Reid, he would be the top dog in the Senate and would force both parties to get down to business and stop kicking the can.

Yeah, I would definately not put Bush or Obama in the centrist camp. Clinton; yes. Bush II was a right winger just too weak unprincipled to force it and used spending to placate and was corporate beholden. And then an even weaker president took his place; "Carter II". Bush 1 was closer to the center then the following two.

As for Ron Paul, well people just can't handle the truth. They are not ready to accept someone like him yet. He doesn't play the game good enough.

I loved watching Ron Paul during the 2008 presidential debates. He would sit right at the table with all of the corporate candidates and tell it like it is. Every time he spoke Romney looked like he just sucked on a lemon.

Are you sure those two would be a good fit as running mates Owl?

I am sure that Romney remembers sucking on those lemons and learned a couple of things. Ron Paul is all about America. Whatever if any problems he may or may not have with Romney he would have no problem setting to the side. I think they would make a great ticket and one of the better campaigning duos we have had in a long time. Can't say that about the other contenders.

Right after 9/11 nobody had a problem with prayer in the Whitehouse. In fact many people turned to religious leaders for consolation. Now I'm not saying we need Bible night out every Wednesday, so don't get me wrong. Some candidates are spenders, some spineless, some like to pray. I like Perry so far........let the debates begin. We'll see.

I have no objection to prayer but just like a lot of our Democrat friends I don't ant religion to become a central theme at the Whitehouse. The pray for rain thingee of Perry's may have started out innocent enough, but his camp quickly turned it into a publicity stunt. It isn't always just about the candidate, it is about who is behind the candidate.

I wouldn't appreciate a bunch of bible thumpers filling important positions in the administration any more than I have Obama's Academic Socialists.

Another stop-gap, band-aid, stabilize the patient, election? I dunno if that is a good thing. I think now is the time for wholesale change. I believe we had better do something significant as a nation soon, else we run the risk of earning our worldwide reputation as uncaring and lazy. We also run the risk of igniting our youth who may be getting a little tired of waiting for us to get off our collective asses, do we want or need a London in our streets?

Did you know it is against federal law to disparage a food product publicly? That in at least one state it is a felony? Does anyone know what the federal payout in food stamps was for 2009? Was it anything close to 800bil., I am curious? 14 trillion dollar debt, going no where but up. We have some serious issues to face. From the least to the most pressing. The federal government is being exposed as a fraud at nearly every level. Federal agencies with enforcement powers are becoming a largely really expensive joke. Add to that my own suspicion that I believe republicans do not really want to win. What would they have to gain, politically, anything? Do we want a half hearted president? Would we even be allowed to elect one? Politicians number one aim IMSHO is remaining in power. Would the republicans pass up an opportunity to gain considerable power in their favor by simply letting Obama drown in the mess he continues to create? I think we have more fundamental questions to ask ourselves before we even consider a candidate at this point. I think we as an electorate have a rare opportunity here, if we have the forethought and courage to grasp it. But that's just me.

I think you have missed my point. Sure wholesale change would be terrific. Not every Senator comes up for election at the same time, it basically takes 6years to flush out the Senate.

I hate it when you do that, and you've done it again. I am now forced to jump ahead of schedule and finish and publish an article about this rare opportunity the electorate has. I am am out to change the way you think.

Sorry about that. But them recalls gave me a rather warm fuzzy feeling inside. Just apply that nationally....... One of my points was I do not think we can resort to the usual criteria this cycle when choosing a candidate. This time it really is a question of the "devil you know vs. the one you do not" Our current crop of miscreants obviously cannot multi-task but neither can they go one thing at a time. Would any candidate from the other side succeed in anything other than wholesale retreat at this point? And if that one were to win re-election would we not most likely end up right back here again the only difference being the perspective on the issues?

Right now I kind of agree with Tesla. Well, depending on what day it is :) Sometimes I think moderation and cooperation is the best route. Then the next day I remember just what cooperation and bipartisanship means in congress. More spending. Do we put politics aside and meet on common ground with America's best interests in mind? Is that even possible? Perhaps the only way we can get this country moving at all, never mind in the right direction ,is to give congress a flushing and just hand the reigns over to one driver. On some days I think bipartisanship is the key. On some days I think that is impossible and we need to pick a single minded direction if we are going to move at all.

I don't know how you consolidate progressive and conservative views. Smaller government, easing restrictions on industry, lower taxes, trickle down VS larger government, tighter control on industry, increased revenue, Keynsian redistribution of wealth to create demand (trickle up)..... How do you meet in the middle on so many opposite fronts without more or less agreeing to not do anything measurable? Sometimes I think we need to just root out all progressives and turn all three branches (per B.O) over to the new conservatives and hold on for the ride. Other times I think that is too risky.

I will decide for myself before too long. It may be to early to commit to either course just yet. We have until the primaries to make up our minds.
