Progressives Are Relavent -- They Just Need A Little Help

I wanted to post this article myself, however I saw that Ambivalent already had, so please go and read the article and see what he has to say. Then come on back and see what I have to say.

Ambivalent. first I wish to thank you for posting that article.

It isn't so much that that the progressive didn't show up. The Democratic Party did not offer much in the way of true progressive candidates. Few will admit it, but many voted for Republican and "TeaParty" types in the hopes that at least a change in faces and in the way things get done in Washington would begin. You must admit that whether you believe it to be for better or for worse they have made changes.(Not looking for an argument here wouldn't be on topic.)

If you want a real chance to win back the Presidency, run Hilary. The only candidate the Republicans have that could give her a challenge would be Perry and that is because of his popularity as a person not on the question of issues. You would have to keep old Billy boy quiet though. His time has come and gone and he would be a detriment.

My only concern about Hilary is that she may be too tired and nearing burnout. As Sec. of State she has been working her tail off and doing what I consider to be a darn fine job under some trying conditions.

I am an adamant detractor of Obama which makes a lot of people consider me as an uber/conservative, whatever that is supposed to mean. I am a centrist with very strong leanings to the left on social issues. I have no problem having my tax dollars used to help those that really need it. It is the extreme amount of abuse that has crept in that makes me sometimes think it best to just shut them down and start over again.

Forget those stupid polls. I saw one on NBC this morning saying Palin was running third amongst Republican candidates. She isn't even a candidate and if she was Obama would probably win.

Give us some progressive candidates that will do what the voters tell them to do, much like several of the Republican freshmen in Congress and you will probably be pleasantly surprised at how many of them get elected.

A third party is viable. Once again forget the polls. Take a good look at voter registration state by state. The number of registered independents is growing leaps and bounds, already they equal the numbers of either the Democrats and Republicans. Many of both parties are still unhappy.

Face it, the leadership of the Democratic Party is just as far beyond the fringe to the left as Republican leadership is to the right. America is not happy with either one.

We are not a country of POLITICAL PARTIES. We are not a country split in half. We are divided into thirds and it is going to be those in the middle that bring our country out of it's current funk and re-unite us. The two established parties only want to keep us divided and ferment hate between us.

At least that is the way this dumbass see's it.

For those who may be curious as to why I call myself a proud DA. Perhaps this will help.

Not the topic of this article.

Show us something progressive for a change would be a start. The problem we have is that our so called leaders have all the maturity of 5 year olds no matter which side the represent. We need someone, anyone, who can put aside the personal @!$%# and do what is right and what serves the most Americans in the best way. The way to do that would be to actually ask Americans instead of Gallup. That would be my starting point.

How about a little compromise. Socially to the left and fiscally to the right! Liberty left and right!

Not A Country Split In Half?

We are not a country of POLITICAL PARTIES. We are not a country split in half.

Not in the de jure sense, no. But in the de facto sense, there is a credible argument to be made that we are in fact two nations. Have we the courage to face this?

I would also suggest that electing more Democrats will accomplish nothing. The Republican and Democratic politics is like two engineers struggling to drive a train. One wants to hit the face of a mountain at 120 mph. The other wants to hit the face of the mountain at a slightly regulated speed of 90 mph.

Politics is the ongoing argument whether we will be more dead hitting the mountain at 90 or 120 mph.

Have we the courage to face this?

Nope, no way . All we need is the courage to listen to ourselves, render the leadership of both parties obsolete and remove whatever credibility the argument that we are two nations may have.

Good Luck With That!

...remove whatever credibility the argument that we are two nations may have.

The problem is, there is no apparent basis for unifying the nation. Domination alone doesn't cut it.

I thought Socialists were all about unification of the masses all marching to one tune.

You are a Socialist aren't you? I base that on your comment on my other article cheering for the Socialist Party. If socialism isn't domination what is?

Dear Owl: I'm Guilty As Charged ...

You are indeed correct that socialism intends to build a mass movement for radical change.

By their failure to postulate any political center, the Republican Party and Democratic Party together evidence the paucity of capitalist society.

In contrast, the Socialist Party USA strives to establish a new, social order in which the commanding value is the infinite preciousness of every woman, man and child. We seek that through the principles and platform of the Party. Unlike the Republican Party and Democratic Party, we socialists publish our entire program -- principles and platform -- for the world to see. Does either the Republican Party or Democratic Party do that?

I wonder why ...

If you want to know what socialism is, the answer, in a word,' is 'radical democracy.' But if want truly to know socialism, you can study it from primary sources, for the reason just described.
