Congress Can’t Compromise: Government May Shut Down Over Funding For FEMA

Mirror Mirror

The Republicans are supposedly the "party of no". Last week the Republicans proposed another budget extension. Remember the previous Democratic controlled Congress never did come up with a budget for this year. Any way, marching in lock step with the "Tea-publicans" House Democrats voted unanimously against the proposal.

Republicans did a re-write, nobody super happy, but everybody happy enough they agreed to pass it. In all of the hubbub are we overlooking that the House was able to compromise? What's up with that? Nothing to really cheer about, no sooner did the House pass it and good old Harry Reid jumps right up and says that no way will it pass the Senate.(Sounds like thuggery to me). Senate Republicans fire back with "We'll filibuster".

Government facing another shut down this week. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Last time it was air safety dangling in the wind. Now it's FEMA, who cares if it's still hurricane and tornado season? What will it be the next time?

GOP's Cain says win in Fla. straw poll not a fluke

No it wasn't a fluke. Doesn't improve his chances any. Just a message.

First Thoughts: None of the above

It does look like we may get stuck with one of them anyway.

McManus: The GOP's hard-right tilt

Not as far as accused, but plenty far enough to be plain dumb.

What About The Headline of This Article? Relevancy?

The Democrats with their unions and various special interest groups are no strangers to thuggery. They are equal to the Republicans with their industrialists and bankers. President Obama's latest pretense of being a tough guy is just downright pitiful. When a barracuda swims with sharks he is nothing more than another little fish.

For the Senate Democrats to announce that they will "obstruct" the passage of the House bill before it was even sent to them after months of calling the Republicans obstructionists only further destroys their credibility doing even more to help remove Obama from office.

Republican Roster Rotten

Republican's are you so self-righteous that you can't see that we don't want to hear all of the stupid ideological arguments. Do you really think that appealing to a religious base is going to get you elected? How you stand on the death penalty?Abortion etc.
Can't you present us with at least one candidate that doesn't have a personal or special interest group agenda? Obviously not, but strangely enough that is probably a good thing right now.

Of all of the candidates you have out there, though they could all probably beat Obama(he actually beats himself), not a one of them will be more than a one term President themselves. I doubt that any of them will be able to stand up to the type of scrutiny that they will be under, not only on the economy but on how stupid they try and get trying to legislate morality. None of these people are accustomed to having to answer to anyone for any of their actions and they aren't going to do well having to answer for all of their actions.

Moderates and centrists know the truth. Not only do we control "who" gets elected, we are also going to exercise a lot more control over what get's done. So you Republicans, many of which are not nearly as intelligent as some of the founding fathers they like to quote so often just keep pushing your morality.  Our founding fathers were a lot like you. Heavy religious influences. They realized the stringent natures of their own beliefs would conflict with the very concepts of freedom they were espousing. Thus separation of church and state was a critical issue for them. Selective religious participation in European governments was a main contributing factor for their coming to America in the first place.

Keep giving us ideological idiots and we will keep changing Presidents every four years. We won't always replace a Republican with a Democrat, could be another Republican. It is still quite possible that Obama may get replaced with another Democrat. Dumb and dumber will be replaced by smart and smarter. We have only begun.

Update from C-Span: The Senate votes this evening at 5:30 pm (ET) on a procedural motion that would allow the bill to move forward - 60 "yes" votes are needed to proceed.

Thanks for the update. Would be nice if they didn't wit until the very last minute this time. 60 is a lot of votes in the Senate. I wish them luck.

well, there are 100 senators, and some of them just Will add amendments. Usually, it'd take a couple of months. This is really really fast for them. :) on a Procedural vote. Now, if there are no filibusters, the bill may even get voted on.

Let me clue you in owlie, it is NOT the job of the Democratic party to pass weasally repub legislation, when said pack of rabid weasals currently run the House. If the repub leadership is too incompetent (which given that most repubs and their corporate masters are in competent thugs whose only abilities involve screwing working people out of there hard earned money) to get its own MAJORITY caucus to pass its OWN legislation, well that's just too damn bad.

Fallacy #1 Democrats use no corporate money nor are beholden to such. Bull@!$%# they are just as guilty as any republican. Can you say GE or Solyndra?

Fallacy#2 according to liberals on this site democrats cannot even pass gas because of the (insert liberal label here) obstructionist republicans, so that point of your statement is completely moot.

And in the careful what you wish for section, 14 months ryoushi12.

Now you have a clue too and we are all inclusive.

One of the few points they had to harp on was "obstructionalism". As most of us already know, both sides wear this hat well. Who ever is in the majority, and the minority controls a branch or can filibuster obstructs. It is a common ploy by both sides. The dems were screaming "obstructionalists" every day for a year or more, now we see the hypocrisy (as if we hadn't before)

What Senator Reid has done is strip the FEMA bill of All amendments, House and Senator....It's a clean bill now. and that's what they are getting ready to vote on...IMO he's getting fed up with all the amendments added to bills that have traditionally been amendment free.

There are those in the House and Senate that have been using bill amendments because they can't use earmarks anymore. LOL

Well the clean bill just got knocked down. So much for a Clean Bill. Now, it's an amendment to the H. R. Bill 2608 from the House....this is better than a soap opera drama.

What they are getting ready to do is pass a bill that makes FEMA use the money they have until the end of the week and then they will get their next funding which is due 10/1....So, no extra money for FEMA, which translates to FEMA will eat up their money earlier than usual for 2012 paying for this years disaster. Gov't funding will go through to November 18, 2011

Which the House could have done to start with and not put in the cuts. They have a SuperCommittee tasked with cuts but they were doing a sideways swipe at the Senate. The Republicans in the Senate had to ditch it. :) Voting Now

Sound like an old fashioned Charley Chaplin movie. Nobody tries to do anything the right way and everybody keeps tripping over themselves. I never did like soap operas and I have about had my fill of slapstick.

More on topic, you obviously are keeping up with things. what is your opinion on the Rep. candidates.I realize you could well be liberal, that doesn't mean you can't give an objective opinion.

Perry, done for if he signs the extra $135 mil in tax breaks for refineries. Taking it from education, Congress isn't going to fund more educational in states, instead they are cutting. Guess he hasn't heard about it.

Bachmann, no legislative record, some appeal to a small base but no, she'll be cut. Republicans aren't ready for a woman President, VP yes but not the Prez

Ron Paul, he's just campaigning to build up a war chest for Rand Paul to run for President in 2016. Not really serious challenger to either Perry or Romney, but he does put on a good show.

Romney, if the Republicans choose anyone it'll probably be him, he's teflon..:)

Cain, a PR situation, though he won't get a big enough base, though as VP maybe

Huntsman, he's iffy, he has to come out next year more prolific, or be VP

Newt, waste of time, effort and money, though again as a VP down at bottom of list, too much baggage.

Santorum, has to develop some talking points and then go prolific. again as a possible VP

Bolton, maybe as VP ...looks like the VP race is also getting bigger :)

Roemer, has to develop some talking points and then go prolific. Problem with campaign money, he doesn't take PAC money. oooops

I think that covers it. But there are several candidates that turned down a presidential run but could wind up being a VP....and that's going to be interesting.

Not really either party, but a Realist and been watching campaigns a long time. :)

The best indication, is the photographers of campaign people, when they start taking those 'candid' shots and they're just a tad off, they're seeing something we aren't. And they're usually right.

and thanks for asking, you're the first one that's ever bothered asking me. :)

PS Jim DeMint his legislation is not up to par in the writing aspect. But he does talk a good talk, just can't do the walk. :)

That would be funny except that many of our "best friends" in that part of the world are attempting to do just that, in order to bypass the necessity of having a long range missile. There are still 5 or 6 Soviet SS-20's, I believe, missing.
